Parrot Cay

Author: Terry Meneley 25.06.2010
A stay at the very private island of Parrot Cay nestled amongst the Turks and Caicos Islands chain truly defines excellence.
This laid-back luxury resort is well known as a favored retreat of celebrities — the place where Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner married as well as Bruce Willis, whom among others like Christie Brinkley, Donna Karan and Keith Richards maintain homes there that can all be rented for vacation.
Parrot Cay comes by its good press because its high service standards are impeccably maintained from the spa to the restaurant to the pool staff who unobtrusively cater to your every whim. Even those not pursued by the paparazzi (which by the way doesn’t exist here at all) get the same stratospheric level of service and friendly welcome that the famous enjoy.
The best units by far are the roomy beach houses and villas, which offer utter privacy and direct access to the beach. Beach houses have plunge pools and hardwood verandas; beach villas (one to three bedrooms) are even bigger, with swimming pools and kitchenettes.

Courtesy of the examiner, the Rick Springfield and Friends cruise is heading to the Turks and Caicos at the end of the year, November 15 to 20. Carnival Cruise Ship Destiny will leave from Miami and go to Nassau, Half Moon Cay and then to Grand Turk. This is another opportunity for exposure to the TCI.

Rick Springfield is best known for “his 17 top 40 hits including his now classic #1 song, Jessie’s Girl, his role on ABC’s hit day time drama General Hospital as Dr. Noah Drake and a wickedly twisted version of himself on the Showtime hit series Californication. Late, Late at Night shares the extremely candid story of Springfield’s initial rise, subsequent fall and his rise again in the music and entertainment business”

The National Museum of The Turks and Caicos have recently unveiled plans for a major expansion of the museum which will be located at the Village of Grace Bay in Providenciales. A location that is central and convenient for visitors to the islands to learn about our history through first hand tours, photos etc. As Providenciales is the most develop island of all the islands in the Turks and Caicos Chain, I believe that this is a wise move for the museum and I know that it will bring more exposure to our island history.

The Village at Grace Bay is also home to Lemon Café (restaurant) and also the Palmyra Town homes, with additional commercial and residential lots for sale.

The annual Fools Regatta sailing races and family day was held this past weekend with fun had by all.

The event this year was sponsored by a new company called Island Com providing a range of services from phones to wireless to competitive cellular minute prices.  The proceeds went to Nissi House Orphanage and BWIC Football club.

The highlight is the hobie races and the home made boats that are beyond creative as you can see from some of the photos here.

Well done to all the sponsors, volunteers and those who attended to support the causes!

The Gansevoort hotel that opened here last year is not only a great place to stay, eat or relax but to also to experience Exhale.  As you enter their sanctuary spa you are immediately transported to an urban spa oasis merging mind and body to support you on your path to overall wellbeing.  Experience exhale’s active and multi-disciplinary approach that combines fitness and movement with spa and healing therapies in a modern, tranquil day spa setting.  I myself enjoy the core fusion class (well I have done one that about killed me) but to experience Exhale is really magical as you will see for yourself someday I hope.

Grace Bay beach has proven to be an excellent venue for a tropical destination wedding. The Where When How magazine and NILA Destinations is perfect for examples and testimonies on such weddings.

Grace Bay offers you a white clean sandy beach and a remarkable back drop of turquoise blue water. All in walking distance to hotels/condos such as Point Grace, Regent Grand, Grace Bay Club etc. and restaurants that can accommodate your wedding guests.

A tropical wedding for you and a tropical vacation for your friends and family. Its a win win deal!

Come see who Trip Advisor is calling the #1 Beach and Sun destination in the world….yes…it’s us down here in our tropical paradise known as the Turks and Caicos Islands.  We all knew we had picture perfect coastlines, reefs to snorkel on and sugar white sand beaches that go for miles (literally as Grace Bay Beach stretches for 14 of them!).

Come discover what everyone else is and be sure to visit us at our office if you decide to stay for a week, a year or a lifetime!

40 Years Later

Author: Terry Meneley 08.06.2010

While revamping our image and look, if you are following our blog you know by now we came across many, many old photos of what Turks and Caicos Islands looked like then and now (some of them will be featured in our new museum).  I thought I would share this shot of what Grace Bay beach looked like in 1966 when the airplane that was to bring some of the original future developers flew over.

A home with history

A home with history

On my way home for lunch, I stopped at the bottom of the hill to my road, and decided to take this photo. The scene just captivated my mind. I did not think an image of an old home peaking through a few lush green trees from the June rain could stand out and be so beautiful. I am not a professional photographer but I do have a found appreciation for nature and enjoy taking shots of nature at its best.
