Have you ever wanted to experience what it is like to be someone else for a day? Or even day dream about what someone else is thinking, feeling or seeing and want to experience that same thing? …

I am a lover of nature, and some days I cannot help but thinking that one of the most stunning views of the Turks and Caicos Islands must be through the eyes of a bird. Soaring aloft, hundreds of feet in the air, and absorbing the magnificent views of the islands multi-hued seas, visualizing the varied shapes of underwater reefs and rocks as they speckle through our country’s turquoise waters, admiring the white sandy beaches or even miles of tropical vegetation especially on the less developed islands of North, Middle & Salt Cay. Just the thought of being able to view natural wonders of the islands, that is not readily accessible by man is a thought to fathom.  Can you imagine . . .

The Turks and Caicos Islands is a beautiful chain of islands and fortunately the next best thing for most of us is the view when traveling by airplane, which never seems to last long enough. I guess I will have to keep day dreaming!

Earl’s Gone!

Author: Terry Meneley 01.09.2010

Our hurricane season is in full swing and we are crossing our fingers that we get lucky as we have so very many  years in the past.

Earl’s outer band went through yesterday and provided nothing more than a brief respite from the heat and some glorious much needed rain.

Keep an eye on weather underground to plan your trip as vacationing through a tropical hurricane is not for the faint of heart!

Condo Open house

Author: Terry Meneley 01.09.2010

This year instead of doing our usual MLS house tour, we are going to do a series of open houses within the condo developments. It will serve the same purpose of promoting our vendors properties to both agents and potential clients alike. Condos will include, the Seven Stars, Ocean Club properties, North West Point Resort and more. I am already excited!

Well after three tries, we finally think we have “the” new public website we are comfortable with to provide our clients with the best level of information and service we possibly can.

Check it out at www.tcrea.com for the latest listings, news and great photos.  These MLS listings are shared island wide and change often, so if you don’t see exactly what you are searching for visit again and we’re sure it will come up.

We at National Colony Realty would like to hear from you. Email us for an update on the market, let us tell you about the new properties, solds and the likes and answer your real estate questions.

To Build or Not?

Author: Terry Meneley 24.08.2010

Now that you have bought the piece of land you have been searching for as your Caribbean getaway or the land you plan to retire on, you need to get building.   Building on a Caribbean Island can be a daunting task.

Often the thought of managing such a huge undertaking from a great distance is enough to discourage even an experienced developer, never mind the average person.  However, with a little research, and the right project team the whole process can be hassle free and allow you to end up with “your” dream house not someone else’s idea of the dream house but there is no need to shy away from the process as long as you keep in mind the following suggestions:

  • By choosing the design and build route the client utilizes the experience of the Designer, who in many cases is also the General Contractor, at the very beginnig to help develop the design, liaise with planning submissions, advise on construction methods and design choices, advise on budget, manage the project, and construct your home.
  • The design and build route allows the client to have as much or as little involvement in the construction of their home as suits their lifestyle whilst putting added responsibility onto the Contractor.  They will often take progress photos for you and are always available to answer questions and put your mind at ease during the whole process.

I find that a day trip to Middle Caicos is always a breath of fresh air, after a long week on the busy island of Providenciales. It is a time that I can relax and really enjoy nature in its fullness, taking everything off of my mind and enjoying life for what it is.

In 1995 Times of the Islands printed an article by Sandy Manners Breil which began by saying “During my first visit to the Turks and Caicos Islands I was overwhelmed by the tranquility I found … I promised myself that a trip to one of the other cays would be high on my priority list when I returned. True to my word . . . I made arrangements . . . for a day trip to the Lucayan Indians’ sacred caves on Middle Caicos.” and ended the article with the words “Sitting at the pool, pina colada in hand we raved to other guests about our day. I could see each of them making mental notes to sign up for an adventurous day of their own in this island paradise.”

Obviously, Middle Caicos is still the beautiful island that Ms. Breil found it to be in 1995, and it continues to give you that unexplained feeling of freedom and tranquility that you look forward to.

Let me have your story of your Middle Caicos experience. I would love to read about it and even post it on our blog.

Sugar Apple

Author: Terry Meneley 13.08.2010

There is a time and season for every thing. It is now the season for Sugar Apple in little TCI. Isn’t the above a beautiful photo (taken courtesy of Terry Meneley). This was grown in TCI. A treat often enjoyed by all.

When many of our visitors to the Turks and Caicos Islands want to capture memories of their trip and a t-shirt just won’t do, they turn to art of some form to forever remember the natural beauty, silken white sand beaches that stretch for miles, diving experiences they may have had, or the many colours of the seas that surround us.

It can be a whimsical silk painting by Anna Bourne ,photos from the air or land taken by local vet Mark Woodring or local baskets from Middle Caicos that can be found in several places throughout the islands.

The choices are endless…have a look for yourself to see what captures your imagination.

The staff quarters of the Royal Reef resort on North Caicos that was completed before the project was abandoned has been bought by a Canadian developer.

A spokesman for the firm, Royal Caicos Beach Club & Spa, said that 30 of the dwellings had already been sold to the company’s existing clients in just 10 days (as per Weekly News) and they have been receiving a lot more interest in the project. The units will be ready by October to November of this year as they are well under construction.

Hopefully, this project will pick up from the intention of the previous developers of the Royal Reef to provide additional jobs for persons on the island of North Caicos and provide an added boost for the island through the much needed traffic that the resort intends to bring.
